Last night I caught a great doco on ABC 2 – The Boy Who Sees Without Eyes.
No, it wasn’t some weirdo science fiction story. It was the real deal Hollyfield.
This bloke Ben, a 14 year old kid who has been totally blind since he was 3. he had his eyes totally removed so there isn’t just a small little bit of sight that he sees.
It is nothing.
The amazing thing about Ben was that he can actually see an outline of what is in front of him.
He doesn’t use a cane.
He doesn’t use a guide dog.
He doesn’t see himself as disabled.
The young fella is able to see by making a clicking sound and listening for the way the sound rebounds off a solid surface.
Pretty amazing hey!
Now, I didn't pay much attention in science class but it makes sense as the sounds would have different wavelengths when they rebound off something solid.
The example to take out of this is to open your doors of perception – sounds like something that Jim Morrison would’ve said, right?
Realise that our boundaries are self imposed.
Take Ben’s example and don’t use excuses on why you can’t do something.
Find the way that you can do something.
That my friends, is inspiration for you.
Don’t let fear hold you back
